Course Introduction:
The Bible is God’s inspired Word for His people, but it was written thousands of years ago and contains many different types of literature. It can be difficult for us to understand and faithfully apply every portion of the Scriptures in our modern context. This course will introduce you to the process of exegesis and hermeneutics, giving you tools to approach and understand each genre in the Bible. Our ultimate goal is to deepen our knowledge of our Lord Jesus as we gain skills to accurately understand and live out His Word to us.
Theme of Each Class:
1. An Introduction to Exegesis and Hermeneutics
2. Interpreting the Epistles and OT Narratives
3. Making sense of the Law, the Prophets, the Psalms and Wisdom Literature
4. Understanding Acts, the Gospels, and Revelation
Lecturer: Valerie Osterbrock
Valerie graduated from the University of Melbourne (Australia) with a *Bachelor of Arts, in *History in 2005 and a *Graduate Diploma in Education (*all with First Class Honours) in 2006. From 2007-2011 she worked as a high school teacher in Australia and Kyrgyzstan. Later, she studied in Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and graduated with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) with Summa cum Laude (2014) and a Master of Theology (Th.M.) in the Old Testament (2015). In 2020 she came to serve as a Lecturer at Sabah Theological Seminary.
